R, S, K, F, Cycloidal or NMRV: Where to Start

HomeResourcesR, S, K, F, Cycloidal or NMRV: Where to Start

Begin a gearbox comparison with the machine layout and operating requirement. A familiar series name can identify a useful route through the catalogue, but it cannot confirm the final configuration or replacement fit.

The families below provide different starting points. Use the comparison to decide which product information to review next, then check the required output, mounting and duty.

Compare the four helical gearbox layouts

The R, S, K and F pages identify different transmission arrangements. Start by looking at how the motor and driven shaft need to sit within the machine.

Family Published layout Next information to check
R Series Coaxial helical drive Foot or flange mounting and the inline installation space
S Series Right-angle helical-worm drive Mounting form, shaft connection and operating duty
K Series Right-angle helical-bevel drive Output arrangement and the applicable mounting dimensions
F Series Parallel-shaft helical drive Shaft and mounting arrangement within the available space

These descriptions help identify the structural route. They do not mean that every model within a family has the same dimensions or operating capability. Open the relevant series page to review its published forms and available selection information.

S and K should not be treated as the same construction simply because both provide a right-angle arrangement. The family identity still matters when reviewing the technical information.

For cycloidal reducers, identify the mounting direction

The cycloidal reducer family provides separate routes for horizontal and vertical arrangements. Match the intended installation direction to the equipment rather than selecting from the product photograph alone.

A vertical drive enquiry should show the driven shaft, mounting surface and space around the assembly. A horizontal replacement also needs its shaft connection and mounting evidence. In either case, review the operating load and applicable product data alongside the physical arrangement.

The family page's published torque information must be read with its frame and ratio context. A general description of the product family is not a load rating for an unspecified unit.

For a compact worm-drive route, review NMRV

The NMRV page introduces the site's aluminium-housing worm gearbox family and its catalogue forms. Start with the available installation space, motor interface, mounting arrangement and machine duty.

Use the exact designation shown in the applicable product information. If your enquiry or supplier document uses “RV”, include the full model marking or a nameplate photograph so the intended product can be identified. A shortened label should not replace that check.

Other worm gearbox products, including WP, remain available through the complete product directory. The three main homepage groups are an introduction to the range, not a complete list of products supplied.

Apply the same questions to every family

Before moving from a family to a configuration, identify the required output speed, available load information, operating hours, starts and interruptions, mounting arrangement and surrounding environment.

If you know the equipment but not the gearbox layout, use the industry application pages first. They organise the enquiry around machines and operating conditions. If you have an installed unit, its nameplate and installation photographs provide a more useful starting point than guessing a family from appearance.

Use the enquiry checklist to collect the missing information, then compare the product families using the relevant technical pages. Final selection remains tied to the machine and the applicable approved data.
